La Virgen de los Dolores, or "Virgin of the Volcanoes" is one of the most emblematic religious figures of the island of Lanzarote.
In fact, is the patron saint of the island. In 1736 a Franciscan priest summoned the people to carry in procession the figure of the Virgin to pray that volcanic eruptions to stop. They promised they would build a shrine, if I did something for them. It is said that one of the villagers came forward to the molten lava, carrying a cross and stuck in the ground. At the same moment, the lava stopped at the foot of the cross and was diverted to areas that did not compromise their homes.


Since then, all the people of Lanzarote and people coming from other islands, pay homage to the Virgen de los Dolores in a procession that begins on Saturday 13 September. Early on the Lanzaroteños walking out, many of them in their traditional costumes and musical instruments from various locations to meet at noon Tinajo.
At 9 pm, begins the Pilgrimage of Los Dolores, one of the most traditional festivals of Lanzarote in the town of White Spot, where you can enjoy dances, parades, music and cuisine Lanzarote all day until late at night. Also a craft market which is worth visiting.
